According to the BBC, Kilmarnock have rejected a bid of £500,000 from German side Nurnberg for left-back Greg Taylor.
No wonder the Rugby Park club have decided to reject this measly offer. It’s completely ludicrous of the Germans to think they can get such a high quality player for such little cash in the modern game.
Much more than £500,000 will be needed to take him away from Rugby Park.
The minimum Taylor should leave Kilmarnock for is seven figures
£500,000 is a bit of an insult. Taylor is just off the back of a tremendous season with Killie, proving himself to be an international level defender during his Scotland debut against Belgium.
The move itself though is interesting. Nurnberg are a decent sized team. They have a 50,000 capacity stadium and had 40,372 fans on average coming through the turnstiles on matchdays last season.
You’d like to think they could come in with more. They are an ambitious club and the move would perhaps give Taylor a stepping stone to playing the Bundesliga. Nurnberg currently play in the second tier of German football, following relegation from the top flight last season.
If he is going to go to Germany for talking sake, it must be at least seven figures before anything can be taken seriously. He’s one of the SPFL’s top talents. A fee of between £2 and £3 million seems reasonable.
He could probably go for more, but for Killie, that type of money can’t be turned down. It could have long-term positives for the club to have a cash injection of that size.
At £500,000 though Taylor will be going nowhere. You’d like to think that the Rugby Park club will be gearing themselves up for more bids in the coming weeks.
