Hearts transfer target Steven Naismith has trained with Craig Levein’s side as they prepare for this weekend’s Betfred Cup clash with Dundee United – as Hearts fans wait for news on the forward’s move to Tynecastle.

Naisy has spent much of the last two seasons on loan in Edinburgh and is a free agent following his release by Norwich City earlier this summer – but joined the Hearts squad at Oriam yesterday, as pictured by Football Scotland.

Hearts have been in talks with the former Rangers and Everton star for  a number of months and it looks a though things may be nearing a conclusion.

The attacker spent the final months of last season on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery but looks set to be fit for a return to action imminently.

Hearts face Dundee United on Friday night at Tynecastle before travelling to take on Cowdenbeath on Tuesay night.

Whether the Jambos can finally get a deal done for Naismith before then remains to be seen but it appears to be a matter of time before he signs on permanently.

Either way, it seems unlikely Naismith would be involved in either game but getting his future sorted out would come as a huge boost to Hearts before the league campaign gets underway next month.
