The Hibs board were reportedly poised to call an emergency meeting should things not have gone their way against Motherwell yesterday.

But the Hibees were impressive at Fir Park and dismantled Stuart Kettlewell’s side with a comfortable 3-0 victory to jump above rivals Hearts at the bottom of the Premiership.

Prior to that game Gray’s side had just the one win in 15 and had just gone nine without a victory.

But the showed signs of life in an end-to-end thrilling draw with Aberdeen midweek and followed that up by cruising to victory in Lanarkshire.

Hibs fans chanted the manager’s name from the stands as they look prepared to give the club legend some time.

Hibs scrap emergency board meeting

The Scotsman is now reporting the Hibs board have identified three games as a chance for David Gray to show what he can do.

They had given Gray a vote of confidence but acknowledged improvement was needed and it’s claimed they essentially gave him the Dundee, Aberdeen and Well games to prove himself.

Obviously, the 4-1 thumping at Dens Park would have given cause for concern although there was the mitigating factor of Jordan Obita’s 12th minute red card.

But the spirit and character shown by scoring TWO stoppage time equalisers to rescue a point against the Dons was the first sign of life.

And the Hibees were even more impressive in their latest fixture.

The report claims there will be no emergency board meeting this weekend after plans for it to happen should it be necessary.

Reshuffled and revitalised Hibs

Gray made a tweak to his side that definitely seemed to pay off – switching to a 3-5-2.

Rocky Bushiri kept his place after being hailed as the ‘ultimate professional’ by his cold after coming in from the cold to score the Aberdeen equaliser.

He was in a back three with Warren O’Hora and Jack Iredale, who impressed playing on the left side of it.

Nicky Cadden has impressed recently and kept up his form at left wing-back, helping set up the first two goals. Brother Chris was on the other flank.

A front two of Mykola Kuharevich and Elie Youan caused problems for the home defence and the big Ukrainian was one of the scorers.

Gray said post-match: “I’m delighted for the players for the effort, the level of professionalism, how strong we looked within the game and I think we fully deserved the three points today.

“I challenged the players before the game to use Tuesday night as the turning point in the season and to take confidence from that and I think you saw a side today that was playing with a lot of confidence and belief in themselves.

“I think the clean sheet as well really helps with that. I’m delighted for everybody and we need to use this as the turning point in the season and kick on from here because it doesn’t fix things in terms of where we find ourselves – we know we need to progress and keep improving – but it takes us off the bottom of the table at the moment, and now we chase down the team in front of us.”
