Ryan Moon’s dream of earning a Hibs contract have been shot down according to reports. Edinburgh Live claim that Paul Heckingbottom won’t be offering the South African an Easter Road deal.

22-year-old forward Moon has been with the Hibees for the past couple of weeks. He has featured for them in friendly matches against Arbroath, Dunfermline and Carlisle United.

He scored against Championship side Arbroath as Hibs fell to a 3-2 defeat. He now will be pursuing options elsewhere if the report is correct.

Moon’s Hibs chances were slim

Heckingbottom needs a third striking option. Christian Doidge and Florian Kamberi are decent options, but Oli Shaw probably needs a loan spell away from Hibs.

The forward has featured regularly for the Hibees but doesn’t look ready for first team action. On that basis, a new forward is needed to provide competition to Doidge and Kamberi.

It won’t be Moon though. He did tick a few of the boxes, in terms of he wouldn’t demand to play every game and that he offers something a bit different to the other two strikers. Doidge and Kamberi are number nine’s, whereas Moon is a bit more pacey and can play a bit deeper in a centre forward role.

Would he have been a suitable candidate? Who knows. Moon never really had enough minutes to prove to the Hibees faithful that he was good enough to feature for them.

Heckingbottom has obviously seen him in training and it looks as if he didn’t fancy the South African. Fans will just need to take the Englishman’s word for it that Moon couldn’t cut it at Easter Road if that is the case.

The sun has seemingly set on Moon’s short Hibs stint.
