Jimmy Thelin admits trying to improve his Aberdeen squad is a ceaseless task as the Swede was quizzed on further recruitment.

Aberdeen have wasted no time in adding new faces to their team since the January transfer window opened.

Jeppe Okkels was signed on loan from Preston North End, while defender Kristers Tobers made a £700k switch from Grasshopper Club Zurich.

IF Brommapojkarna star Alexander Jensen could be the next to sign after Aberdeen launched a £400k bid for the Danish utility man.

Jimmy Thelin on building Aberdeen

Speaking to Sky Sports, Thelin was asked what else he thinks need to be done to take his Aberdeen side to the next level amid a concerning run of form.

He said: “I think you always have to have the ambition to improve the team. It can be through training and the time we have with the players to grow better in what we want to achieve together.

“And also sometimes you need recruitment and finding the right profile. So I think it’s a never-ending story, you always have to focus on the team.

“Sometimes also players get injured, sometimes you sell someone, but you have to always try and get a better team every week in training but also try to build a team for the long-term with recruitment.

Thelin quizzed on Hearts test

Aberdeen host Hearts at Pittodrie on Sunday and Thelin is in dire need of a result. The Dons are 10 games without a victory and supporters are frustrated – a stark contrast to just a couple of months ago.

Asked about facing the Jambos, Thelin responded: “They are a good team. They have had some good results now and I think we need to be really sharp, that’s where the focus is on.

“I think we can see some parts in the Motherwell game where we are doing well, then we still have times where we don’t have momentum in the game and get hurt too much and have goals against us.

“So I think still the focus is to improve ourselves and do our things much, much better and hopefully we get the performance that deserves a result.”
