Jack Ross has been at Newcastle for over a year after heading for the English Premier League following his Dundee United sacking.

The Scottish manager was thought to have a bright future as a boss after working wonders at St Mirren but his progress took a bit of a bump at Sunderland, before returning to Scotland to do an overall admirable job at Hibs.

However, it didn’t end well and a miserable run of form saw him heading out the Easter Road revolving door. United appeared the perfect chance to rebuild his reputation but he lasted just three months in charge with embarassing 9-0 and 7-0 defeats to Celtic and AZ Alkmaar costing him his job.

This time, he chose to embark on a different path and it wasn’t long before he had secured a role at the newly cash-rich Magpies.

He originally went into the English Premier League giants as interim head of coach development before that position was made permanent.

A year-and-a-half later and he has now moved into a new position as head of strategic technical partnerships.

Ross has been in the role since September but recently shared the news on LinkedIn.

Since 2020, the 28-year-old has also been doing work for the national governing body.

Ross was a coach educator and assesor for three-and-a-half years before oving on to become a course tutor on the UEFA Pro Licence course.

He previously told how he would like to work as a sporting director at some stage, explaining: “Sporting director is an area I want to pursue because ironically I don’t think there’s that many people with my background in the role. That’s surprising and if you do a deeper dive there’s actually not that many who have been managers or players.

“Dan [Ashworth] mentored me and spent a lot of time with me and one of the gaps I had in my CV was academy experience so this has been brilliantly insightful.

“I thought I knew it all in football but far from it. If I was to be a first team manager again there are bits that I would definitely take into it from here, which is the greatest compliment I could pay it.”
