Jimmy Thelin is still not pushing the panic button but admits his Aberdeen team must do better.

The Dons lost 3-1 at home to Hibs today, taking an early lead before falling apart and conceding three.

Aberdeen have now gone six games without winning as the brilliant unbeaten start to the season they had gives way to a tough spell.

They’ve now relinquished second place and could slide even further down the table if they can’t arrest their slide in form.

They now have two tricky away games against Kilmarnock and Dundee United as things don’t get any easier.

Thelin has remained level-headed throughout his side’s unbeaten start and also through their blip but has now made an admission about his players.

Thelin addresses Aberdeen failures against Hibs

After their last game, Thelin was forced to address boos from the Aberdeen support after a draw with St Johnstone and admitted he understood the frustration.

Today, he insists there was some good things from his team but that the bad things dropped “too much” to cancel that out.

And he also says his players must be more resilient to react to mistakes, as they will always happen.

Thelin said: “Football is a team sport, and mistakes will happen within a game, but you can’t get so hurt from a mistake, and that’s a sign you’re not balanced as a team or covering for each other.

“We need to keep working as a staff and with the players to focus on this part. Some parts of the game were good today, but that doesn’t matter if the bad things drop too much and put us in a difficult situation.

“Even when you win a game when it might not be the best performance. We need to improve, we know that, and the only way to do that is to perform in training sessions and in games.

“We’re not there yet, but we’re on the right path, even if it doesn’t feel like it when the results are not coming.”

Thelin on Aberdeen ‘challenge’

The Swede added: “We had a good start to the season and now we have a period that’s not the best.

“But the challenge is how we want it to end.

“The way to get out of this is to focus on the next training session and the next game.

“And try to be better on some parts that we right now struggle a little bit with.

“It’s clear what we have to keep working on the compactness of the team.

“There’s no way around it, you have to live it.

“You have to go out on the training pitch and you have to try to do it better and then take the next challenge.

“So we have to do these basic things better and the good part is not so complex.

“We just need to do it and make sure everybody is ready to do this work.”
