Aberdeen are one of the Premiership clubs who have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the transfer window.

The Dons have been hit with some serious injuries leaving their squad depleted and manager Jimmy Thelin admitted they needed to make additions as a result.

On top of that, their form has crashed and they are now eight games without a win, giving up second place and also losing their grip on third with Dundee United closing in.

They made an early move as Not the Old Firm revealed Aberdeen’s transfer offer for Grasshoppers defender Kristers Tobers.

We also told how the Pittodrie side would have to pay around £700,000 if they are to land the Latvia captain, who is a centre half.

Yesterday, a Latvian expert gave the lowdown on what Aberdeen would be getting if they do land Tobers.

Thelin is constantly being asked about transfer plans and gave a fresh update.

Thelin on Aberdeen transfers

The Swede admits he would have been looking to make signings even if his squad hadn’t suffered from injuries.

He said: “We’re working on things, not only for the injuries, but also trying to progress as a team for the long term.

“Sometimes you have short-term problems, but also you must not forget what you want to build over time.

“That’s why you try to find the right ones for the longer term also.”

Thelin on Nuno de Almeida relationship

New recruitment chief Nuno de Almeida will have a major part to play in the window after coming in as the new head of recruitment at Aberdeen.

Thelin worked withhim at Elfsborg, after luring him from Porto, and has opened up on their relationship.

He added: “We had lunch when Nuno was over in Scandinavia for Porto, and we talked about if he wanted to try another journey.

“Back then he was with Elfsborg and in that role he was a scout, but also an assistant coach.

“It was a good situation that we worked together there before Nuno went back to Portugal again.

“Now our paths crossed again and that’s football — it’s a big world but still a small world at times.

“That’s why it’s good to always take care of your relationships as you never know when you’re going to meet again.

“Nuno knows his targets in his job, and what he’s searching for.”
