Jimmy Thelin has offered an update on Kevin Nisbet’s potential Aberdeen future.

The on-loan Millwall striker hit a brace for the club in their 4-1 hammering of Motherwell yesterday afternoon to help the Dons keep pace with Hibs in third spot in the Premiership table.

The 28-year-old has banged in 12 goals and provided four assists from 30 appearances this campaign so far and some pundits even feel Nisbet has played his way into Scotland contention for his club form in the Granite City.

For Thelin it has simply been important for the striker to be enjoying his football after some struggles with the Lions down south in England’s Championship.

Jimmy Thelin open to signing Kevin Nisbet permanently

Whatever comes next for the player will depend on a number of different factors including the fee Aberdeen might need to pay to keep him permanently as well as his parent club’s plans for him.

But Thelin would be open to anything regarding the hitman who he feels has done well in Scotland again.

“If you ask if we like Kevin, yes we do,” the Swedish coach said about Nisbet at full-time after their win over Motherwell.

“That’s all I can say. He is not our player even though he is here right now so it is not for me to say that kind of thing.”

Asked if, financially, Dons might see Nisbet as out of reach, Thelin refused to be drawn on it further.

Can Aberdeen afford Nisbet?

But he did, again, hint at having a think about the move down the line whenever the opportunity is right or presents itself.

“We focus on the moment right now,” he added.

The striker cost Millwall £2million when they brought him to the Den from Hibs back in 2023.

And that sort of cash won’t be lying around at Pittodrie. Aberdeen coughed money for Topi Keskinen in the summer and while they would have to push the boat out further in this instance, it is not outwith the realms of possibility.

They are also contenders for a top three finish this season and prize money from that as well as European qualification would ensure a bigger budget next term.
