Rejuvenated winger Martin Boyle says his less prominent role in the Hibs team of late was a much-needed ‘kick up the backside’.
Boyle had been left out of the Hibs starting XI for the last five Premiership games stretching back to the thumping defeat to Dundee in November.
But manager David Gray named the Aussie in the starting line-up for the trip to Aberdeen on Saturday and the decision worked wonders.
Hibs secured a very impressive 3-1 win at Pittodrie as Boyle notched a goal and two assists to inspire his team to three crucial points.

Boyle back with a bang for Hibs
Boyle was back to his electric best and told Hibs TV after the Aberdeen win: “It was the kick up the backside I needed.
“The competition in the team is really high, and if you’re not performing then I’m sitting on the bench.
“I’ll always keep my spirits high, keep working hard, and thankfully I got my chance today and took it.
“I was so keen to get my shirt back. I always want to contribute goals and assists, and thankfully I managed that today.
“I’ve got a good connection with Elie and Nicky, we work hard in training. I was unselfish and there were people in the box to score the goals.”
Boyle on ‘unbelievable’ Aberdeen victory
The 31-year-old reflected on the win that moved Hibs back up to 8th in the league. He said: “The win was unbelievable. It’s really nice to come here and win because it’s a difficult place to come.
“We defended well in the second half, Smudge (Jordan Smith) made some good saves, and we hit them on the counter.
“The fans were absolutely brilliant. It’s a hard time of year for them to spend their money to come here, so I’m glad we could put a smile on their face.”
