Hibs kept their sparkling unbeaten run going with victory over Celtic.

Most onlookers would have been expecting the Hibees to finally relinquish their unblemished 12-game stretch when they came up against the champions and league leaders, but instead they stretched it to 13.

Josh Campbell banged in a first half double which the Hoops only had one reply to and manager David Gray lavished praise on the Hibees midfielder, who does the work of a player and a half.

While Kieron Bowie has set his sights on a Celtic double by beating them in the Scottish Cup en route to lifting the trophy.

Before that for David Gray’s side are tough and important league games against Dundee United and Hearts on Wednesday and Sunday respectively.

Rocky Bushiri hailed for huge Hibs moment

Rocky Bushiri has been central to Hibs’ turnaround in form, playing in the heart of a back three after Gray switched to a 3-5-2.

The previously maligned defender has been imperious in the backline and even popped up with some important moments at the top end of the pitch, including dramatic equalisers against Aberdeen and Rangers.

His form forced Tam McManus to admit he was wrong about Bushiri.

While Gray has singled the centre-back out for praise more than once.

One moment on Saturday typified the DR Congo international. After the Hibees were denied a penalty claim, Celtic broke up the park and almost equalised.

Bushiri was the only reason they didn’t. He appeared to be cramping up as he tried to run back but managed to keep going through sheer will, and made a block on the line after Jota rounded Jordan Smith.

Neil McCann didn’t think it was a penalty in the first place but loved seeing the defender’s heart to get back in with a big block.

He told BBC Sportscene: “No, I don’t think it was.

“But look at Bushiri here. Watch him, he’s got the lead legs on, he wants to give up but his heart is telling him ‘no, I’ve got to be get back because I’ve still got a role to play. I can’t get it there so I’m going behind the keeper.’

“And that is a fantastic block. If that goes in the net 2-2. And I have to say he was outstanding but he was part of an all-round team performance, and I include the staff in that.”

What David Gray said on Hibs display

Speaking post-match, the Easter Road boss said: “Yeah, I thought we were excellent, outstanding actually, to be honest, is probably the word I would use. Purely because before the game I spoke a lot about we needed every player to be absolutely at the top of their game.

“We needed every player to give absolutely everything and give the amount of energy that goes into that.

“And to buy into what we’re trying to do from a game plan point of view and I thought they delivered that.

“I’m delighted for them, they got out of the game what they deserved from the amount of effort they put into it. And every single one of them to a man who was outstanding on the day, which we needed to beat a very good Celtic team.”
