Martin Boyle admits he’d be open to extending his contract with Hibs but confirms no talks have yet taken place with Easter Road chiefs.

Winger Boyle is out of contract in the summer but Hibs do hold the option to extend his stay in Edinburgh for another season.

Boyle has been with the Hibees since 2022 after re-signing for the club following a short-lived spell with Saudi Arabian outfit Al Faisaly.

He started the current season with difficulties and had to eventually get an operation on his hand in September.

Boyle then required another procedure which involved his hip and it was impacting his performances on the pitch negatively.

However, Boyle regained form amid Hibs’ resurgence in the Premiership and the 31-year-old now has 12 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.

Does Martin Boyle want to sign a new Hibs contract?

Boyle faced the press ahead of Hibs’ home clash with Celtic on Saturday and was quizzed by reporters on where he stands with his contract.

He hinted that staying was more preferable than leaving the club he loves and whom he has represented since 2015 bar that one year in Saudi Arabia.

Boyle revealed: “I haven’t (had discussions) no. I’m just fully focused on playing the best that I can for this club, always have been. We’ll see where that is at the end of the season.

“Am I open to staying? Yeah, one hundred per cent. It’s a club I love and is close to my heart. But it’s way at the back of my mind. I’m concentrating on what I can do for the club at the moment.

“Whatever happens with that, happens.”

David Gray doesn’t want to lose Boyle

Hibs boss David Gray was asked about Boyle’s future after the winger returned to form by scoring twice in the club’s 2-0 victory over Motherwell in January.

Gray admitted negotiations with Boyle could be made easier because the pair share a strong relationship having played alongside each other in the capital.

He said at the time: “Yeah, I think that does work both ways to be honest. I think it probably helps that I’ve got that little personal relationship with him.

“But then when you are talking about something like his future, it’s very important that it’s not personal at all for me. I can’t use the fact that he used to be my teammate or whatever. Not at all.

“There’s conversations going on all the time. At this moment in time, he’s really happy in playing the way he is. If that continues to the summer, then we’ll all benefit from that.

“I don’t want to lose anyone. If somebody says, you’re going to lose Martin Boyle, I wouldn’t want that to happen.

“But it’s also a business and everything that comes with that. So we need to be proactive and ready for anything that could come up. But at this moment in time, he’s happy, he’s playing and long may that continue.”
