Former Dundee United midfielder Ryan Gauld has ‘verbally agreed’ his move to Vancouver Whitecaps, amid interest from Celtic (EEN).

The midfielder is currently a free agent after his departure from Portuguese side Farense and was subject to interest from several clubs, including a return home to Scotland with Celtic. Gauld has been pondering a big-money move to the MLS with Vancouver, a deal said to be worth seven-figures.

Other proposals have been made to Gauld but it’s been reported that Whitecaps have landed Gauld. He will join on a three-year deal that will guarantee him £1 million a year. Gauld started his career with Dundee United and after showing his potential, moved to Portugal with Sporting Lisbon.

Sporting didn’t work out for Gauld but he has rebuilt his career at fellow Liga Nos side Farense, attracting links from Celtic, English clubs and teams across Europe. A switch of continents looks inevitable, but there could be a legal wrangle, Farense insisting Gauld isn’t a free agent as they had a contract clause to extend his deal by 12 months.
