Former Dundee United star Ryan Gauld is at the centre of a transfer saga as Celtic and Vancouver Whitecaps track the attacking midfielder (Scottish Sun).
The former Arabs talent has been offered a seven-figure deal to join MLS side Whitecaps, while Celtic are said to be monitoring his progress. Gauld has enjoyed a successful season with Portuguese side Farense and was supposedly out-of-contract this summer, clubs hunting a bargain.
But Farense president Joao Rodrigues has thrown a spanner in the works. He claims that Gauld is still under contract, and a big fee will be needed to acquire him: “Ryan Gauld is a Farense player. He has a signed contract for the next season, as all procedural requirements have been met. Obviously, Farense will do everything to defend his rights.
“We have complied with Ryan, as we have always done and he with us. We know that there has been news about his departure, but our intention is to keep him and extend the contract for more years.”
