Hibs were impressive yet again as they made it 15 games unbeaten in the Premiership. The fact it was a derby win over Hearts is a massive added bonus.

Jack Iredale’s late stunner gave the Hibees a 2-1 victory after Martin Boyle edged them in front early on, only to be cancelled out by Jorge Grant’s strike.

Manager David Gray admitted he’s never seen defender Iredale strike a ball like that and praised his players for their response in the second half after an underwhelming first.

After pundits tipped Aberdeen for third, Hibs are now looking like the favourites after taking that spot amid their dream run.

And their former midfielder Scott Allan was very impressed with what he saw at Easter Road.

What David Gray would’ve said to Hibs players at half-time

Allan was pleased with the composure of his old side and how, in the second half, they exploited the wide areas that Hearts had given up by playing a midfield diamond.

He felt it was obvious Gray had asked them to start doing that at half-time and picked out Nectar Triantis and Dylan Levitt as key to it with their calm play in the middle of the park.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, he said: “Yeah, for me second half Hibs came out. David Gray touched on it, you could tell he would’ve went in at half-time and told them to use those wide areas because it was a constant threat for them.

“They could do it in one or two passes. The main thing in the second half was the calmness of the two centre midfielders, Levitt when he came on and Triantis.

“When a game is hectic in an Edinburgh derby it’s the team who gets their foot on the ball and show a bit of composure. And that’s exactly what they done in the second half.”

Hibs more composed than Hearts

Former Hearts boss Steven Naismith said: “I thought Hibs’ composure was much better. They didn’t just force it and go forward all the time, they picked the right pass.

“The two midfielders were the driving force in that and it leads to a great goal.

“It’s calm, they’re moving the ball to then make this happen, it’s one-v-one in the wide area.

“And Iredale being an outside centre half, plays left-back at times, has the composure and calmness to take the touch, set himself and it’s an incredible strike.”

Allan added: “They don’t get Iredale in that position unless they have the calmness to switch the play, coming back out, allowing them to sustain attacks.

“That is why Hibs are high in terms of their team and what a way to win an Edinburgh derby.”
