What David Gray wants from Elie Youan as Hibs boss quizzed on Marvin Bartley spat

David Gray has had his say on the social media back and forth between Hibs winger Elie Youan and pundit Marvin Bartley.

Youan received widespread condemnation for his antics against Dundee last Saturday after Jordan Obita was sent off early in the game.

The Frenchman was filmed doing keepie-uppies and skills during a pause in play after the red card and Bartley was one who took extreme exception to it.

He called Youan “embarrassing” and that his behaviour was “unacceptable” given Hibs’ current predicament in the Premiership.

But Youan would hit back and tagged Bartley in a picture on Instagram of his man of the match award from Hibs’ thrilling 3-3 draw with Aberdeen on Tuesday.

Bartley then delivered a lengthy retort on his own Instagram as tensions between the two boiled over.

Gray nonplussed by Youan vs Bartley

Gray was asked about the spat ahead of facing Motherwell at the weekend and said he isn’t too bothered about it, as long as Youan does his best in a Hibs shirt.

Gray said: “Listen, if I’m being really honest, the social media side to it – Adam (head of communications at Hibs) told me about it.

“I’ve got no social media and to be honest, I’ve got far too much on my mind to be worrying about two people moaning on social media.

“I think as long as he stays respectful and professional and I’m getting the best out of the player on the pitch, that’s my full focus.

“I’ve not got social media and I’d rather I didn’t use it. But at the same time I understand it’s a massive part of the world we live in at the moment. But my full focus is on Motherwell at the weekend.”

Hibs feeling ‘naturally more positive’

Asked by club media how the mood in the camp is after the 3-3 draw on Tuesday, Gray replied: “I think naturally a lot more positive.

“I think we’ve been on the receiving end of that sort of scoreline in terms of losing a goal late on and only getting a point.

“But it probably does feel like a lot more than a point, especially to the players, and we need to make sure it is that and take the positives from it.

“We need to take the feeling of that after the game as a turning point for the season and try and build on that for the weekend, that has to be the full focus now.”
