What Jorge Grant has said about Hearts in derbies in damning admission

Hearts haven’t won a single Edinburgh derby this season, with a draw and two defeats so far.

Hibs beat the Jambos 2-1 on Sunday to make it back-to-back victories over their city rivals and move up to third in the table, with Hearts staying seventh.

The visitors shaded the first half but went in level at 1-1 after Jorge Grant’s sweet strike quickly cancelled out Martin Boyle’s early opener.

And the Hibees were well on top during the second period as they used the wide areas to good effect, Jack Iredale lashing in a beautiful winner.

Scott Allan praised Hibs for their composure on the ball and ability to shift it from side to side and exploit the spaces left for them.

From the other side, Neil Critchley said Hearts were unrecognisable from their usual selves and admitted they didn’t deserve to get anything from the game based on their second half performance.

Grant says Hearts didn’t want Hibs win enough

Now, Grant has admitted the Hearts team were miles off it after the half time break.

He says they couldn’t deal with the changes David Gray made for the home side and were then on the back foot for the rest of the game.

And the midfielder says he and his teammates haven’t wanted it enough in all of the derbies so far this season.

He said: “Disappointing. We played okay first half on Sunday, but second half we weren’t anywhere near it.

“They made a few changes and we just didn’t deal with that and couldn’t really get off the back foot. It was a really disappointing day. Second half on Sunday was obvious. I feel like we didn’t win enough second balls.

“We didn’t play our football. We didn’t settle down on the ball like we did in the first half where we had control. The other games I felt like we didn’t want it enough. We’ve been there or thereabouts, but when it matters most, we haven’t pulled through as a team and individuals.

“But I think we’ve had a really good run. For us that’s two defeats in the last 10 or something like that. So we can’t let that derail what we’re trying to do and how we’re trying to push forward. It’s on to the next one.”

Grant Hearts future up in the air

Grant is out of contract in the summer and could be on his way out of the club. Critchley was asked about his future after the quality of his goal at Easter Road, but dodged it.

Speaking post-match, he said: “Oh, you’re asking me probably at the wrong moment right now.

“It was a great goal for him today. He’s one of a few players out of contract and those talks will take place at some point. But obviously not right now.”
