Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna will miss Scotland’s vital Euro 2020 play-off semi-final with Israel tonight after failing to recover from injury.

The Aberdeen academy graduate made the move to Nottingham last month and debuted just a few days after his arrival at the City Ground, playing in a 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town.

But for last weekend’s visit of Bristol City, McKenna missed out with a knock.

It’s now been deemed that he is not fit enough to compete over the next week for Scotland, heading back to Forest with injury.

It’s a cruel blow for the centre-back who has been capped 16 times for his country. Scotland face Israel tonight looking to seal a spot in a Euro 2020 play-off final which could land the nation a spot in a major tournament for the first time since 1998.

It’s more bother for manager Steve Clarke after virus trouble hit his squad, Stuart Armstrong testing positive for COVID-19 whilst Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie self-isolate.
