Motherwell are closing in on the loan signing of Archie Mair from Norwich City.

Fir Park boss Stuart Kettlewell has already recruited Kai Andrews on loan from Coventry City so far this January.

And he told the press in midweek that if there are to be more bodies added to his squad, it won’t just be for the sake of it.

Kettewell said: “In terms of trying to bring anybody else in, it’s only going to be whether it filters into our structure here, and only going to be if I think it’s something that will give us a wee bit added quality and strength and depth.

“I’m not looking, at this point, at bringing in players for the sake of bringing them in.”

Archie Mair close to Motherwell loan move

But Not The Old Firm can now reveal that Motherwell are nearing the second signing of the January window in the form of Archie Mair.

The former Scotland U21 goalkeeper will pen a straight loan deal until the end of the campaign with the Steelmen and will provide competition for Aston Oxborough and Krisztián Hegyi.

Mair’s career to date

The 6’6″ tall Mair began his career with Aberdeen as a kid before moving south to Norwich City.

Since 2020, Mair has been loaned out to six different clubs. They include King’s Lynn Town, Lincoln City, Dartford, Notts County, Gateshead and Morecambe.

He last played for Morecambe when he was sent there on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 season, making 21 appearances and keeping two clean sheets.

On an international level, Mair has represented Scotland across a number of age groups including U17s, U18s, U19s and U21s.
