New Dunfermline Athletic manager Neil Lennon is wasting no time in improving his squad.

Lennon was made the Pars boss until the end of the season, becoming the third manager at East End Park this campaign after James McPake and Michael Tidser.

Tidser was given the boot after just 11 games with Dunfermline currently sitting 9th in the Championship ahead of Lennon’s first game on Saturday.

He will lock horns with Scott Brown’s Ayr United and the Northern Irishman could have a former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in his matchday squad.

Victor Wanyama set for stunning Dunfermline move

It has been revealed by the Dunfermline Press that Kenyan international Victor Wanyama is currently undergoing a medical with Dunfermline.

Wanyama is closing in on a move to East End Park until the end of the season and reunite with his former manager Lennon.

Furthermore, the Daily Record are reporting that Dunfermline will beat EFL Championship outfit Queen’s Park Rangers to Wanyama’s signature.

Wanyama began his senior career at Beerschot before moving to the SPL in 2011. He spent two years in Scotland working under Lennon before sealing a £12.5m switch to Southampton.

He made 97 appearances in midfield for the Saints and impressed enough to tempt Tottenham into splurging £11m to make him their own in 2016.

Wanyama did not win a major trophy in England but was on the bench for Spurs during the 2019 Champions League final defeat to Liverpool.

Between 2020 and 2024, Wanyama turned out for CF Montreal and captained them to victory in the 2021 Canadian Championship final against Toronto FC.

Wanyama has been a free agent since last summer but now looks set to return to the SPFL after a 12-year absence.

Neil Lennon aiming to shift Dunfermline ‘psychology’

Lennon was convinced by Dunfermline’s owners to take the job and attempt to rescue the from any relegation threat.

He has coached in the Championship before with Hibs and understands how competitive and tight the division really is.

And Lennon feels his immediate challenge is to turn the mood of the dressing room after a run of poor results under Tidser.

Lennon told a press conference: “Last week, we had a lot of conversations between myself, the chairman and the owner. They made a very compelling argument for taking the job.

“There’s an old adage from Sir Alex (Ferguson) where sometimes you pick the owners rather than pick the club.

“We’ve got a good one here. Further down the line, he’s got really good aspirations for the future of the club. I wanted to align myself with that. So, I’m excited.

“We have a lot of work to do, which is not going to happen instantly, but I’ve had a good response from the players over the last two days. I’m delighted with their attitude and application.

“It’s great to be back involved in football. I know how competitive and attritional the Championship can be.

“I know we’re not in the best of form at the minute, so that is a challenge for myself to turn the psychology of the club and dressing room around.”
