The very latest Premiership transfer news and rumours for January 3. Not The Old Firm provide you with updates concerning Hearts, Dundee United, Motherwell, St Mirren and St Johnstone.
Jamie McCart agrees Hearts deal
Rotherham centre-back Jamie McCart has reportedly signed a pre-contract deal with Hearts.
The 27-year-old former St Johnstone man joined the Millers in 2022 and has since spent time out on loan with Leyton Orient and Barnsley.
His contract with Rotherham is up at the end of the season but Hearts are aiming to sign McCart permanently in January.
It is unknown whether Rotherham will be keen to let McCart go early but Jambos chiefs are expected to negotiate a fee.

Kyle Cameron’s St Johnstone loan set to end
It is being reported by The Courier that Kyle Cameron’s loan with St Johnstone is set to be cut short.
It is said Simo Valakari does not want Cameron to be a part of his 2025 plans and thus, Cameron’s parent club Notts County are preparing to bring him back and send him out on loan again to Barrow.
The 27-year-old joined the McDiarmid Park side in the summer and has made 18 appearances, scoring one goal.
St Mirren exploring Zach Hemming return
Zach Hemming is being targeted for a possible return to St Mirren, according to the Daily Record.
The Middlesbrough goalkeeper played for the Buddies on loan last season and helped them qualify for Europe.
He was then sent out on loan to Leyton Orient but Middlesbrough have now recalled him with the intention of moving him elsewhere.
Any move for Hemming by St Mirren could be accelerated if current No.1 Ellery Balcombe is recalled to Brentford this month.

Jim Goodwin eyes new Dundee United forward
Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has said that he wants to recruit a pacey forward this month.
He told reporters after United’s derby win over Dundee: “We’ve got a certain area in the pitch that I think we need to strengthen.
“I think at the moment we’ve got four strikers at the club that are all very similar. Stirton, Moult, van der Sande and Dalby.
“I think we need a little bit of pace at the top end of the pitch. It’s something that we spoke about before the window shut in the summer.
“Unfortunately, we just missed out on one before the window closed. That’s certainly an area that we will look to try and sort out.
“There are times during the games where we need to be able to go and lengthen it. We probably don’t have that option at the moment.”
Motherwell January transfer plans could change
Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell admits injuries to Lennon Miller and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos could impact his original plan for the January transfer window.
Miller could face up to eight weeks out with an ankle injury while Stamatelopoulos missed the defeat to Hearts on Thursday.
Kettlewell said: “Will it affect what I do in January? It may well do.
“We’ve had a plan coming into January and part of that plan wasn’t being without Lennon, not being without Apostolos Stamatelopoulos.
“Lennon in particular has played just about every minute to this point.”
