Dundee United loan striker Sam Dalby’s immediate future has now been confirmed.

Dalby joined the Tannadice club on loan from Wrexham in August and was scheduled to run until the end of the season.

However, Wrexham have been swithering over the chance to recall the forward this month with a return clause inserted in the loan contract.

Jim Goodwin has repeatedly expressed his wish for Wrexham to allow 25-year-old Dalby to stay at United given his exploits in front of goal this season.

Dalby has netted 10 goals in 20 Premiership games so far and is one of the main reasons why they sit third in the top-flight table.

Sam Dalby will remain with Dundee United

And it’s good news for Dundee United fans. The deadline for Wrexham to recall Dalby passed on Friday afternoon and they decided not to exercise the recall option.

An official Wrexham statement read: “Sam Dalby will remain at Dundee United on loan until the end of the season.

“Wrexham AFC offered the player a new contract before the Winter Transfer Window opened and that contract remains on the table for the player.

“We wish Sam and Dundee United well for the remainder of the season.”

Dalby will remain on loan at Dundee United until the end of the season as they push to secure European football for next season.

He was quizzed over Dalby as he has been all month and said Dalby was keen to remain at Tannadice.

The Irishman explained: “We are planning for Sam being here beyond January, obviously Wrexham hold all the cards at the moment because Sam is their player.

“All I can say is that Sam is loving life in Scotland, he is the top goal-scorer in the league and is enjoying his football and that’s what is most important for us.

“Of course we want him to stay and I think the big fella wants to stay as well, so we will hopefully have a conclusion to that over the weekend.

“He is a key player, you want your strikers to be scoring goals and we know if we give the big man opportunities he will put them in the back of the net more often than not.

“It’s been a great loan spell for Sam up to now and we are planning for him to be here beyond the January window to help us continue the success we have had up until now.”
