Hearts have reportedly agreed a fee to sign Jamie McCart and bring him north to Edinburgh this month.

The Jambos were in the market for a left-sided defender after a serious injury to Stephen Kingsley left them short.

Couple that with Kye Rowles’ impending £600k departure to the MLS – which Not The Old Firm exclusively revealed – and the need to sign someone in that area become a priority.

Hearts kicked off their January business with the loan signing of Elton Kabangu from Union Saint-Gilloise before it was revealed the Jambos had secured McCart from Rotherham on a pre-contract.

Hearts will pay £70k to sign McCart early

But now, the Edinburgh Evening News are reporting that talks between Hearts and Rotherham have progressed quickly.

And Hearts are said to have agreed a £70k fee with the English outfit to sign McCart permanently this month, instead of waiting until the summer when he could have joined for nothing.

The report states that McCart is preparing to travel to Edinburgh and will sign a long-term deal at Tynecastle.

McCart at Rotherham this season

McCart is a former St Johnstone defender who was part of the famous side who won the Scottish Cup and League Cup double in 2020/21.

The 27-year-old stayed for one more campaign in Perth before earning a move south to Rotherham. He made 33 appearances for the Millers in total, 21 of which have came this season.

McCart spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient and played for Barnsley the year before.
