How Aberdeen and Hearts’ 4 new signings fared in drab stalemate

Aberdeen and Hearts had two new January signings apiece in their sides as they faced each other at Pittodrie.

The Dons were the hosts for a drab 0-0 draw with the Jambos that didn’t feature too many clear cut chances, although the visitors missed a stoppage time penalty to win it.

The home side completed the signings of winger Jeppe Okkels and centre-back Kristers Tobers this week and both started as Jimmy Thelin looked to breath life into a team that had lost five on the bounce and not won in ten.

Hearts had defender Jamie McCart coming in for outbound Kye Rowles at centre-half and brough on Elton Kabangu for a debut from the bench.

Here, Not the Old Firm rates how each new signings got on.

Kristers Tobers

Aberdeen completed the signing of Tobers this week after Not the Old Firm exclusively revealed their initial offer.

He went straight into the starting line-up for this one and didn’t really put a foot wrong.

Hearts weren’t able to cause too many problems for the new pairing which included midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen.

Tobers was taken off just after the hour mark, perhaps just to protect him on his first game for the club.

Jeppe Okkels

Okkels was Aberdeen’s first signing of the window as he came in on loan from Preston this week.

His display wasn’t quite as encouraging as Tobers’ as he struggled to get into the game and was very, very quiet.

When he did get involved he was ineffectual.

Okkels has barely played any football for Preston so not too much can be read into this as he tries to get up to speed.

Jamie McCart

McCart was given his first Hearts start after coming on a sub against Dundee United following his transfer from Rotherham.

He was solid as a rock at the back alongside Craig Halkett, dominant in the air and on the ground.

Will be disappointed not to have a first goal for the club though after crashing a header off the post.

Elton Kabangu

Got around 25 minutes for his Jambos debut and showed what he will bring, looking fairly sharp and someone who can add speed and dynamism to the attack.

Produced a decent header which looked like it could be heading in but for Ross Doohan’s intervention.
