Football fans are always quick to judge new signings, often too quick.
It is usually better to allow some time to pass before fully casting aspersions on players who are trying to adapt to playing in new surroundings, with new teammates, under new coaches and quite often in a new country.
But we are surely at a point now where we can get a bit judgey.
We’re nowhere near the point where players can be completely written off yet, but what we can do is judge who have been the best summer acquisitions by Premiership clubs.
So Not the Old Firm has done just that with our list below.

Topi Keskinen – Aberdeen
Aberdeen splashed out on bringing the Finland winger to Pittodrie and it is looking like smart business. He is fast, direct and creates and scores goals. Keskinen’s tally so far is four goals and two assists for the title challengers.
Sivert Nilsen – Aberdeen
Dons boss Jimmy Thelin hasn’t got much wrong since in any department since coming to Pittodrie, and that includes the transfer market. He brought in a previous player from former club Elfsborg knowing he could trust him and Nilsen has been a revelation as he patrols the midfield along with Graeme Shinnie.
Dimitar Mitov – Aberdeen
Most good teams usually have a strong and dependable goalkeeper and the Dons certainly have that. Mitov’s penalty saves have brought him to the fore but his all-round game is so assured and he’s one of the top goalkeepers in the league.
Simon Murray – Dundee
Dundee paid a fee to sign a 32-year-old when they signed Murray from Ross County which maybe raised eyebrows. But they knew what they were getting which was a striker who will run all day, never giving backlines a moment’s peace, but also has an eye for goal. Hit four already.
Will Ferry – Dundee United
Dundee United have been feelgood Premiership story this season, pushing for European spots after promotion from the Championship. Like Aberdeen they recruited very well from various markets but it’s one from England who is standing out. Will Ferry has passed the ‘eye test’ with his performances but the stats back it up, too, and he has recently been tipped for international honours.
Blair Spittal – Hearts
Spittal may have taken time to get up to speed at Hearts after his free transfer switch from Motherwell. But the midfielder is up and running now with three goals, coming in three consecutive games, and three assists. Tore Omonia Nicosia apart in the Conference League to show he can do it outside of the Premiership.
Tawanda Masanwishe – Motherwell
The Zimbabwean attacker has looked a threat for Motherwell all season but is really starting to put it all together now with three goals and and an assist in his last two Premiership games. Was also a threat against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final and can play wide as well as through the middle.
Corrie Ndaba – Kilmarnock
Kilmarnock and Derek McInnes pushed hard to get the defender permanently from Ipswich after a successful loan and they will be glad they did. Comfortable on the ball as well has hard in the tackle and good defensively, Ndaba displayed all of that in a recent starring show against Celtic.
