Premiership out of contract XI including including key Aberdeen men

The Premiership is a league where there is a lot of turnover of players.

Stars often let their contracts run down in the hope of something bigger and better coming along and next summer there will be 134 Premiership players coming out of contract.

St Johnstone have the most with 21 of their current squad potentially becoming free agents in the summer of 2025 while Hibs have as many as 17.

Aberdeen are having a flying campaign but even they could have their progress going into next season hampered with some key players still to sign new deals.

We are getting close to the time when managers and clubs can start talking to players who enter the final six months of their current contracts.

There are some Premiership stars who will be highly sought after and plenty of conversations will take place.

So much so that you can pick a pretty decent starting XI from the list, so that’s exactly what we’ve done here at Not the Old Firm.

GK: Craig Gordon – Back in the Hearts side after wrestling the gloves back from Zander Clark. Now 41 though so remains to be seen what the future holds.

RB: Paul McGinn – Motherwell will be keen to get their club captain on new terms but the focus for now will be on returning from injury.

CB: Dan Casey – Another Motherwell defender who has been key to their early season success. Aggressive and strong in both boxes.

CB: Robbie Deas – Kilmarnock had such a strong backline last season and he was a big part of it along with Stuart Findlay and Lewis Mayo.

LB: Jack MacKenzie – Has become a key part of a truly stunning Aberdeen team. MacKenzie has attracted attention from English Championship sides and has admitted he will have to make a decision soon.

CM: Ante Palaversa – Not been able to establish a regular spot in the Aberdeen team ahead of Graeme Shinnie and Sivert Nilsen but Palaversa has shown his quality when he has played and scored a couple of big goals.

CM: Lyall Cameron – Will surely be on the radar of clubs in the Premiership and further afield. Was heralded along with Luke McCowan last season and could be the next to to leave Dundee.

CM: Jamie McGrathMcGrath has been another big part of Aberdeen’s start to the season as one of the most creative players in the league.

RW: Danny Armstrong – Armstrong hasn’t been quite as red hot for Kilmarnock this season but would still be a smart pick-up for a lot of teams. Previously had interest from Bolton.

LW: Duk – Managed to work his way back into the Aberdeen fold after going AWOL but the smart money would be on him moving on in the summer.

ST: Lawrence Shankland – A frustrating season so far for Shankland with just one goal to his name. Not likely to have the same suitors as if he’d kept his previous form up.
