Aberdeen were busy in the January transfer window having recruited six new players.

Manager Jimmy Thelin was backed financially by the Pittodrie board despite a wretched run of form in the Premiership.

Not The Old Firm exclusively revealed in December that Aberdeen were targeting Latvian international captain Kristers Tobers.

And the transfer soon went through as Aberdeen shelled out £600k to land the 24-year-old centre-back from Grasshopper Club Zurich.

Tobers was soon joined by Alexander Jensen from IF Brommapojkarna, Alfie Dorrington on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and free agent Mats Knoester.

Tobers on gelling with new defensive recruits

And having trained and played with his new teammates for a couple of weeks now, Tobers is surprised by how natural the gelling together has felt.

Tobers has lined up with Knoester in Aberdeen’s previous two games as they picked up wins against Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup and Dundee in the league.

Tobers told the press ahead of facing Kilmarnock on Saturday: “To be honest, it has been really natural. It’s a bit surprising how well it’s been.

“Everybody understands what they need to do. Everybody understands what are some of the guys’ strengths, what are the weaknesses and how we can help each other.

“So, I think that’s really good. Of course, it takes a little bit of time to get used to each other and adjust to some players as well.

“But I think overall, from game to game, we are improving our defensive line as well.”

Tobers ‘really amazed’ by turnout at Dundee

Aberdeen managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Dundee to end their torrid 14-game winless run in the Premiership last weekend.

Tobers has thanked the Dons supporters for turning out in big numbers that day, saying: “The players need the support when it’s the hardest times. That is really important for us.

“It means a lot for us that the fans, even in harder periods when it’s not going so well for the team, are still coming and supporting us.

“That’s really crucial as for a team we need to be together. For 3,000 fans to support us in an away game against Dundee is really amazing.

“I’m grateful that our fans are supporting us.”

Aberdeen injury news ahead of Kilmarnock meeting

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin also spoke with reporters this week as his team look for two league wins on the bounce against Derek McInnes’ Killie.

Thelin delivered three injury updates with Ester Sokler, Jack Milne and Dante Polvara all back in training.

The Swede confirmed: “Ester, Dante and Jack Milne trained with the team today, also in the game, so that’s good.

“Let’s see when they are back to compete for a position inside the squad, but at least the training now with the team on the pitch, that’s good.

“I think at least, it’s difficult to say, but around maybe two weeks or something like that.”
