Derek McInnes has revealed the recovery timeline for Stuart Findlay after the Kilmarnock man underwent ankle surgery in London.

Findlay was one of Kilmarnock’s most important players of the season up until he sustained a serious ankle injury in the 3-2 defeat to Dundee at the start of November.

The former Scotland international landed awkwardly on the ankle and had to be stretchered off the pitch. It was then diagnosed that he had suffered severe ligament damage.

Killie boss McInnes said at the time that Findlay could be set for two to four months on the sidelines. But now the manager a few weeks on has delivered a more accurate prognosis.

McInnes confirms Findlay out until March

He confirmed that Findlay had surgery on the ankle in London recently and that he won’t be back in action for Kilmarnock until possibly the end of March.

Speaking to the press ahead of Killie’s home game with Dundee on Saturday, McInnes revealed: “Stuart Findlay has had his operation now, he had that done last week.

“I don’t think I’ve mentioned that yet but he’s out for the best part of three to four months. He had the operation in London last week.”

Kilmarnock ‘likely’ to sign defender in January

As has been discussed previously, Findlay out for the long-term is a massive blow for Kilmarnock. But fans can be encouraged that the centre-back will be able to play a part during the business end of the season.

It is being reported by Killie Chronicle journalist Ewan Paton that as a result of Findlay’s ankle injury, Kilmarnock will aim to replace him in the January transfer window.

Killie, however, do still have six defenders to choose from despite Findlay’s absence so it remains to be seen for sure if McInnes is keen to make that seven again or perhaps target another position.
