Ex-Aberdeen star to miss Barcelona clash after ‘curious’ yellow card

There are now a few ex-Aberdeen stars plying their trade in La Liga.

Duk completed a transfer to Leganes at the end of the January transfer window as he called time on his turbulent two-and-a-half years at the Dons.

He is already making an impression with Leganes fans delighted at the forward’s impact during a short cameo.

Bojan Miovski earned a big-money move to Girona last summer but hasn’t really kicked on since scoring his first goals in November.

In the same window, another Don in Scott McKenna headed to Spain as a free transfer signing for Las Palmas.

Scott McKenna to miss Las Palmas vs Barcelona

The Scotland international has been a big hit at Los Amarillos, a regular in the heart of defence as they look to avoid relegation out of La Liga.

McKenna and fellow Scot Oli McBurnie are favourites out there, but particularly the strong centre half.

However, he will miss their next game against Barcelona after picking up a yellow card during a defeat to Mallorca. A booking that has been described as “curious.”

Fan website UDLasPalmas.net said: “The most curious thing about Scott McKenna’s yellow card is that it was in the last play of the match, when he grabbed Cyle Larin with time already up and when the ball had not yet reached the red-and-white striker.”

Referee Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias described the booking in his report as: “For holding an opponent, doing so in an obvious and persistent manner.”

McKenna absence a blow to Las Palmas

McKenna has been so good for Las Palmas that his absence against the superstars of Barcelona at the weekend.

Estadio Deportivo said: “The Scottish centre-back arrived in the summer transfer market at no cost from Nottingham Forest.

“The player has established himself as the centre of defence for the Canary Islands. Diego Martinez has full confidence in the defender, who is putting in good performances for Las Palmas.”
