Jimmy Thelin rejects Aberdeen comparisons between January signing and club hero

Jimmy Thelin has already explained exactly what he thinks of Oday Dabbagh after bringing the striker to Aberdeen.

Dabbagh was a late Dons addition in the January window as they finally got the striker they had been searching for to aid their troubling form.

Thelin branded the Palestinian ‘exceptional‘ as he also outlined the four key traits he would bring to Pittodrie.

Dabbagh told how the move to Aberdeen was ‘unexpected’ and took just three hours to complete after their previous interest was revisited, signing on loan from Charleroi with an option to buy.

There was then a delay while he awaited a work permit but he got his debut off the bench during the win over Dundee at the weekend.

Dabbagh looked sharp during his short time on the pitch and almost grabbed a goal. And the qualities he has displayed have led to some comparisons to previous Dons hero Bojan Miovski.

But Thelin reckons those are unhelpful and played them down.

Speaking post-match, he said: “No, I don’t think like that. I don’t like to compare players, I think every player is unique in one way.

“So I haven’t thought so much about that myself, actually.

“But what he has is a good touch, he’s good at finding position inside the box and is also a good finisher.

“Let’s see how he connects with the team and how we play.

“Of course he needs time, like everybody else, but I think he’s a clever player and can adapt really quickly.

“He has his strength in the link play with other players, but also always finds a spot to a finishing situation inside the box.”

Aberdeen signings need more time

Aberdeen made six January signings – defenders Kristers Tobers, Alfie Dorrington, Alexander Jensen and Mats Knoester, winger Jeppe Okkels and Dabbagh.

It was hoped they could help return them to their early season form and the Dundee win is a start.

But the manager insists the new players still need time to settle in at Pittodrie.

He added: “I think everything needs some time sometimes.

“The players also have different backgrounds.

“Every week will help us to get stronger and stronger and that is really important for us right now in this part of the season for the goals we have and the ambition we have for the season.

“Also some players have different skills, some are more about technique or power or speed and some it is more the game understanding, so it’s a mix of everything.

“Sometimes it’s going quicker for some players and adaptation, and they can create relations really quick.”
