Marvin Bartley was a player who wore his heart on his sleeve.
Whether during his spell with Hibs, Livingston or when down south, he was a defensive midfielder who always got stuck in and left everything out on the pitch.
So he is the type of ex-pro who will not take kindly to seeing current players putting in half-hearted attempts during games.
And the Englishman was left absolutely furious after watching his old club, the Hibees, capitulating at Dundee.

Hibs players not showing enough hurt
We already told you how Bartley launched a tirade against Hibs winger Elie Youan who nonchalantly did keepy-uppies during the break in play for Jordan Obita’s red card.
But the Frenchman wasn’t the only one feeling his wrath.
The pundit feels that as a collective the Hibees squad are not hurting enough during defeats or about their current predicament at the bottom of the Premiership.
Responding to the fact the entire team headed straight of the pitch at the whistle, he told Premier Sports: “I’m not surprised, I’m really not surprised with the way they performed today.
“You lose the game 4-1, you just want to get off the pitch.
“I don’t see enough in that dressing room. I don’t see enough hurt when they’re losing games of football.
“I don’t see enough hurt at being bottom of the league.”
Hibs players need to take blame
Pressure on Hibees boss David Gray raises with every defeat with questions being asked about how long he can list amid the poor run of defeats.
And Gray himself insisted he takes his share of the blame for the way things are going.
But Bartley says the playing squad need to step up and take responsibilty.
Asked how much of the blame lies at their door, he added: “An awful lot. The buck will stop with him because it’s easier to get rid of one manager than a whole squad of players.
“I’m not saying all of the players have let him down but some of the performances today when it’s a massive, massive game for him…
“You go 1-0 up, you then have a sending off, fair enough. But show some fight.
“They didn’t, they just rolled over and had their tummies tickled.
“Players after the game ‘it is what it is, who cares, we move onto Tuesday’s game’. The manager might not get another game.”
