It’s been a fantastic week for Hearts in the lead up to their Premiership clash against Ross County on Saturday.

The Jambos progressed to the Scottish Cup semi-final stage last Friday night as they overcame Dundee 3-1 at a raucous Tynecastle.

They will face Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen at Hampden Park and that has been pencilled in for Saturday, April 19 with kick-off at 12:30 BST.

There’s been some renewed transfer speculation about Lawrence Shankland, but that has been overshadowed by news concerning young striker James Wilson.

The Hearts teenager – who still attends secondary school – was called up to the senior Scotland squad by manager Steve Clarke.

Wilson has enjoyed a tremendous breakthrough season with the Gorgie outfit – but nobody quite expected his career to take a leap into the international scene so soon.

James Wilson ‘overwhelmed’ by Scotland call

Hearts manager Neil Critchley has told reporters on Friday how young Wilson reacted to the news and admits while he was excited, he looked a little ‘overwhelmed’.

Critchley said: “It’s a special moment, isn’t it? I found out on the morning of the announcement. Graeme Jones had been notified and let me know.

“I pulled James after a team meeting to tell him and he was obviously taken aback by the news. I don’t think he was expecting it, he was quite surprised and you could see the excitement in his eyes.

“I think he was a little bit overwhelmed. You could see what it meant to him. It was a really special moment. It’s fantastic for him and his family, for the academy and the football club.

“Let’s just hope he goes there and does well and if the opportunity comes along, I hope he takes it.”

Hearts injury updates ahead of Ross County

Hearts face Ross County in a mid-table Premiership battle at Tynecastle this weekend with both sides looking to rise into the top six.

Critchley provided a few injury updates concerning his Hearts team, most pertinently concerning defender Jamie McCart and midfielder Cammy Devlin.

The Englishman revealed: “We have to make a decision on whether we think Jamie McCart will be fit and available.

“Cammy Devlin has trained all week. So, again, we just have to make a decision on whether he’s done enough training this week, having missed about four weeks, to see if he’s going to come back into the squad.

“Other than that, everyone else has come through the game (versus Dundee) okay and other than Stephen Kingsley, Halks (Craig Halkett), Frankie Kent and Aidan Denholm, who are all back out on the pitch and at various stages of their rehab, getting closer. Everyone else is good to go.”
