Aberdeen have landed the striker they so craved with confirmation of a loan deal for Oday Dabbagh.

The Dons also have an option to buy on the 26-year-old who comes in from Belgian side Charleroi, initially until the end of the season.

We told earlier how Dabbagh was set for a medical as the Dons closed in and looked set to get it done before the deadline. They have now confirmed that they’ve been successful in that.

He will arrive in Scotland once visa and immigration red tape has been cut through.

Dabbagh is Palestine’s record goalscorer with 16 goals from his 45 caps and has played in his homeland, Kuwait and Portugal before moving to Belgium.

It came after a move for AC Milan’s Marko Lazetic collapsed, but manager Jimmy Thelin was delighted to land his man on deadline day,

Thelin outlines Aberdeen signing Dabbagh’s qualities

Dabbagh has a good scoring record in Palestinian football and in Kuwait and hit the net with reasonable regularity in Portugal.

The move to Belgium didn’t quite work out though as the goals dried up, scoring four in his first season and just one this campaign.

But Thelin insists he is a finisher who also has other qualities which he will bring to the table at Pittodrie.

The Swede said: “Oday is a clinical finisher who has an exceptional work ethic and his combative qualities will be a real asset for us.

“He has a strong personality, both on and off the pitch, and we believe he will be a positive addition, adding another dimension to our attacking options as we work to get back to winning ways.”

Dabbagh’s first Aberdeen words

The frontman is yet to jet into Scotland to meet up with his teammates but is very much looking forward to doing so.

He told the Aberdeen website: “I am very happy to be joining AFC and look forward to meeting my teammates, the coaches and people around the Club.

“I am looking forward to the challenge and I am hopeful that I will re-pay the trust everyone has shown in me with good performances for the team.”
