Nectar Triantis speaks on Hibs future and the two teammates helping him out

Nectar Triantis has previously admitted to loving life at Hibs – and their supporters are certainly enjoying having him.

The Sunderland loanee has been one of the Hibees star performers this season, in the heart of midfield, and key to their current unbeaten run which has them third in the Premiership.

A centre-half to trade, the 21-year-old struggled in that position during his initial loan but showed what he could do in midfield, and it was always David Gray’s plan to use him there when bringing him back.

Contracted until 2027 with Sunderland, who could be a Premier League outfit by next season, it’s not clear what the future holds for the Aussie.

Triantis has previously answered questions on his future and the potential for staying at Hibs past this season.

And he has been doing so again.

Triantis on Hibs future

Gray was delighted to keep hold of Triantis past January when Sunderland had a recall option they chose not to take up. And there’s every chance he’d be keen to have him at Easter Road into next season.

A lot could depend on what division the Black Cats are playing in and the player himself admits he has absolutely no idea what the future might hold.

Sunderland chiefs have told him they’re happy with his progress but becoming an EPL side would turn it into a whole other ball game.

And he admits he could end up anywhere.

“Honestly, I have zero idea,” Triantis told the Hibs Observer. “I’ve had communication with my parent club, Sunderland, and they’re happy with how I’m going.

“But I could not give you an answer right now, to be honest. And it’s not my biggest focus at the moment, because there’s still a long way to go in the season. Sorry to not be able to answer that, I really don’t even know myself where I’ll be next season.

“There’s every chance I could be at any club, you know? It gives me a lot of pride and joy that the Hibs fans actually want me and want me to sign, a lot of relief and satisfaction that there’s that backing behind me. I think I’m going to just see what happens over the next few months.”

Joe Newell and Dwight Gayle help Triantis’ game

After transitioning from a defender into a midfielder, Triantis has had invaluable advice from Hibs club captain Joe Newell.

And he’s also been learning from a more surprise source – striker Dwight Gayle.

“As a young player, you’re never a complete player,” he says. Every chance you get, you’ve got to learn. You’ve got to take it to learn and to grow as a player.

“Joe has been big for me. He’s also taught the leadership side of it. You’re in the middle, you control the game. You talk to players, you tell them where to go. You lead and boss the game.

“He’s really taken me in that aspect. In terms of my attacking aspect, I look at Dwight. His movement, his nose for goal, his awareness, his positioning. You can really take things from that.

“That’s a point where I’m trying to improve my game. You can see this season, I’ve added goals and assists to my game. That’s something I’ve really tried hard to work on.”
