Aberdeen have reportedly joined Rangers in the race to sign Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract deal.
The Dons have been busy this January window with the club’s board backing manager Jimmy Thelin financially to bolster his squad for the rest of the season and beyond.
Defenders Kristers Tobers and Alexander Jensen were recruited to reinforce a shaky backline for £700k and £600k respectively.
While Tottenham Hotspur’s Alfie Dorrington and Preston North End’s Jeppe Okkels joined on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Aberdeen want Dundee’s Lyall Cameron
Now, it appears Aberdeen have their eye on Dundee star Lyall Cameron and want to beat Rangers to his pre-contract signature.
Cameron is arguably Dundee’s most important player but it appears likely the midfielder will run down his contract and leave in the summer.
The 22-year-old is currently free to discuss terms with other clubs with Rangers first posing an interest in the player.
But the Daily Mail are reporting that Aberdeen are keen to ‘hijack’ any move by Rangers for Cameron and will try to persuade him to join the Pittodrie club instead.
Of course, Rangers will outspend Aberdeen with regards to wages but the report states that the Dons will attempt to convince Cameron that his long-term future is better suited in the Granite City.
Dundee will be due a compensation fee by the club who signs Cameron because they have trained and developed the youngster through their academy system.
Aberdeen’s track record of buying cheap & selling big
The report adds that Aberdeen, if they start negotiating with Cameron and his representatives, will make it clear they have a successful track record of delivering big-money moves for their talent.
Ross McCrorie moved to Bristol City in 2023 for around £3m while in the same month, Lewis Ferguson sealed a switch to Serie A side Bologna.
Three years previously, Aberdeen managed to secure a £4.75m fee for defender Scott McKenna who moved to Nottingham Forest.
While Bojan Miovski and Calvin Ramsay are the best examples to make Cameron aware of. The North Macedonian hitman moved to Girona in the summer for £6.8m.
Ramsay made a glamour transfer to Liverpool in June 2022 and that was for a fee of £6.5m.
