Aberdeen are making moves in the transfer market having landed their first January signing yesterday.

The Dons signed Danish winger Jeppe Okkels on loan from Preston for the rest of the season, with an option to buy at the end of it.

Okkels played under Jimmy Thelin at Elfsborg before signing for Utrecht and then the English Championship men, where he has barely featured.

It comes after Not the Old Firm revealed Aberdeen had made an offer for Grasshoppers defender Kristers Tobers ahead of the window opening.

That one doesn’t seem to have progressed and we revealed the Dons will have to pay around £700,000 to land the Latvia captain.

Now, it looks like the Pittodrie men are attempting to team Okkels up with a fellow countryman.

Aberdeen attempt to sign Jensen

Aberdeen have launched a transfer bid for Danish right-back Alexander Jensen, according to a report.

But the Dons may have to go higher than the £400,000 currently on the table with his club, Swedes IF Brommapojkarna, holding out for double that.

Tipsbladet report that negotiations are underway between the two clubs for the player who is now in the final year of his contract.

The report claims this is not the Dons’ first bid but they have now increased to the £400k, but the Swedes still want more.

Jensen played all 30 Allsvenskan matches for his club in 2024 and Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin will know him from there having managed Elfsborg before coming to Scotland.

The Dons currently have Nicky Devlin playing right-back but are after cover all over the pitch with injuries leaving them light on bodies.

Aberdeen could break transfer record

Aberdeen yesterday concluded the signing of Jeppe Okkels, Jensen’s fellow Dane, on loan from Preston.

However, it could become permanent in the summer due to an option to buy clause and the Daily Record is reporting that could become a club record transfer fee.

That currently stands at £1million for the signing of Paul Bernard from Oldham Athletic in 1995.

Upon signing, Okkels told the Aberdeen website: “First of all, I know him (Thelin) and what he expects from his players, how he sees football and what he wants.

“That is something I have been used to before and hopefully that will be a good fit. For me, the situation I came from in Preston, I was lacking game time.

“It can be a good mix of me bringing some quality to the team and as well I can get a lot of time on the pitch, which I need and I am really looking forward to. I think it is a good fit.

“He is one of the managers who is down-to-earth, hard working and also calm and focused on the road. Not just the rest of the week but the focus on the process and performances. I only have good things to say about him.

“I also have to come here and show myself. It is not as if I can come here and get minutes from something before in Sweden.

” I am really focused to once again show who I am and bring the quality I have and I will deserve the time I get on the pitch hopefully.”
