Lennon Miller Motherwell injury update as star man to see specialist

The last thing Motherwell need right now is an injury to their star man.

The Steelmen have had plenty injury concerns to contend with this season and have been without captain Paul McGinn and vice-captain Stephen O’Donnell.

That has led to 18-year-old Lennon Miller wearing the armband in the absence of the far more experienced duo as the talented teen steps ups his responsibilities amid interest from Premier League clubs including Liverpool.

McGinn returned to the squad for the Rangers draw to ease things a little bit but the injury concerns are not fully abating for Stuart Kettlewell.

The Steelmen boss seems to have had different players missing all season and it looks like there is no let-up.

Lennon Miller Motherwell injury latest

Miller has been the subject of transfer rumour ahead of the January window with Manchester United, Man City and Arsenal the latest clubs to join the race.

But that chat may have to be put on hold due to his injury status.

The midfielder had to hobble out of the Rangers clash on Sunday and Motherwell assistant manager Stephen Frail has now delivered an update.

And it’s not looking like a short-term thing with Miller set to see a specialist.

Frail said: “Lennon is, unfortunately, probably a little bit more than just being assessed. He will see a specialist.

“He left here on Sunday in one of those protective boots, so he will be assessed by a specialist over the next couple of days.

“Apostolos (Stamatelopolous) went off with just a strain, he will be assessed. We’ve got a little bit of a virus in the club as well. There’s three or four players struggling and missed training.”

Miller lucky to avoid red vs Rangers

The injury came after Miller avoided a red card for a tackle on Oscar Cortes, escaping with just a yellow.

And the general consensus has been that he was a lucky boy.

Kris Boyd told Sky Sports: “I think Lennon Miller is a little bit lucky here.

“You can understand, he goes over the top of him, but he does catch Oscar Cortes on the ankle there. I think he is very lucky.”

Former ref Bobby Madden weighed in: “Here you see the defender lunging over the ball and making contact on the ankle and the turn of the ankle.

“This should be a VAR intervention and quite a straightforward red card for serious foul play.”
