Here is the heartwarming moment Lennon Miller found out he had made the Scotland squad for the first time.

The Motherwell teenager and Hearts’ James Wilson, both 18, could get their first caps against Greece after being called into the Scotland squad for the Nations League play-offs.

There has long been a clamour for the Fir Park sensation to be involved but Clarke had previously suggested Miller was not ready.

But he has continued to stand out for the Steelmen and be their best and most consistent performer in the Scottish Premiership.

Lined up by a number of interested clubs, the most recent story was that Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise are keen to sign him for £5million to develop him for sister club Brighton.

For now, he is still a Motherwell player but now also a full-fledged Scotland one.

Moment Miller finds out he’s in Scotland squad

The Steelmen’s social media team have now shared a video showing the moment their youngster found out he had been selected by Clarke.

The clip starts with Miller, some teammates and a member of staff huddled around a phone as the squad was announced and he is heard being asked “Is this you’re first one?” as he tries to keep a lid on his emotions.

Manager Michael Wimmer then addresses the group and says: “Good session, well done. But the more important thing is congratulating Lennon for invitation for the Scottish national team.”

There are cheers and a round of applause from his teammates as the delighted teen can’t wipe the smile off his face, before proclaiming “I cannae” when asked to make a speech.

The likes of Andy Halliday and Stephen O’Donnell, who has 26 caps himself, make a beeline for him to give more congratulations.

Miller is then interviwed by the Motherwell social media team and says: “It’s brilliant. I never expected it to be honest, I expected to be with the 21s. It’s a proud moment for me.

“I’ve been working hard to try and play as well as I can for Motherwell and to get that recognition is brilliant.”

What Steve Clarke has said on Miller’s Scotland call-up

Speaking on Miller and Hearts forward James Wilson, who also got his maiden call, Clarke said: “A lot of call-offs, a lot of injuries, especially in middle to forward areas.

“I just felt it was a chance to have a look at two young boys who’ve caught the eye – Lennon certainly over the last 18 months and James over the last six months. Two for the future but also can help us just now.

“Lennon plays with a maturity beyond his year. Good qualities, he can play deep in midfield, can play higher midfield, good delivery, box-to-box, good energy. Now we have to see if he can fit in among the group.

“[James] is someone who catches your eye, runs behind, looks to score goals, which is a great trait. We’re always looking for goal scorers.”
