Andy Halliday teases Aberdeen transfer deal as ‘good friend’ close to signing

Aberdeen fans have been left delighted with the early January business they’ve done but they’re not stopping there.

The Dons wrapped up their fourth signing of the window yesterday with the addition of Danish right-back Alexander Jensen, paying a significant fee to get him from Brommapojkarna.

A fees have already been paid for centre-back Kristers Tobers from Grasshoppers and could be in the summer for Jeppe Okkels after he joined on loan from Preston with an option to buy.

Joining him on loan is Alfie Dorrington from Tottenham, another centre half.

The Dons could also do with more firepower up front as well as possibly more defensive cover with damaging long-term injuries to Gavin Molloy and Ester Sokler.

Speculation is ramping around who could be the next addition after Andy Halliday let out a bit of a tease.

Halliday teases Aberdeen signing

The Motherwell midfielder insists he knows of a “good friend” of his who is set to sign for the Pittodrie men in this window.

He was discussing the Dons’ transfer business and how he would expect them to now kick on and sort out their horrid form, when he let slip he was aware of another one in the works.

Halliday told Clyde One Superscoreboard: “You do expect an upturn in form, especially with the money they’re looking to spend and the transfer dealings they’re looking to get done in January.

“I actually know one as well, behind the scenes that I might tell you off air. A good friend of mine.”

Host Gordon Duncan replied: “I think I know what one you know.”

Speculation over next Aberdeen transfer

Halliday letting slip has inevitably led to the rumour mill going into overdrive with Dandies fans speculating over who the mystery new man could be.

One name mentioned is his former Hearts teammate Lawrence Shankland, who is out of contract and looks set to move on and ironically was at Pittodrie as a young player.

Jambos boss Neil Critchley was recently forced to deny there had been an offer for Shankland from a Turkish second division side.

Another thrown in was Tony Watt, who currently plays with the 33-year-old at the Steelmen.

There was also a hopeful suggestion of Lennon Miller, but that seems highly unlikely with Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd among the clubs tracking him.
