Financial details regarding Jamie McGrath’s contract at Hibs have been revealed.

The Aberdeen midfielder will leave Pittodrie in the summer after two years to join Premiership top six rivals Hibs on a four-year deal.

Hearts were also interested in McGrath’s services for next season and beyond but it is the Hibees who are getting one over their nearest rivals.

David Gray insists McGrath will add extra quality to Hibs in midfield and admitted he’s been admired by the Leith club for some time now.

McGrath is 28 and Aberdeen confirmed they were not prepared to offer the Irishman a fresh four-year contract.

For the most part, Aberdeen fans are siding with their club’s decision while Hibs supporters are not convinced and called the Dons out for hypocrisy.

McGrath will earn £1m over four years at Hibs

Former Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes told Sky Sports on Tuesday that he is surprised by McGrath’s pending Hibs move.

While former Hibs boss Neil Lennon is scratching his head over the pre-contract arrangement as he branded the timing strange.

Now, it has been revealed by the Daily Record that McGrath is set to earn a fortune over the next four years at Easter Road.

The Irish international will pocket over £1m across his contract, which is roughly £4,800 per week before tax.

As such, he’ll become one of, if not, the highest earner at Hibs as McGrath secures the final big contract of his career.

What Aberdeen said about McGrath to Hibs

As alluded to, Aberdeen were not comfortable with tying McGrath down on a four-year deal and only wanted him to extend his stay in the Granite City for another three seasons.

The Dons explained on their official X account: “Jamie McGrath will leave Aberdeen at the end of the season following the expiry of his contract.

“We were informed by fellow Premiership side Hibernian that he has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Edinburgh club.

“Both Jamie, who will miss the rest of the season through injury, and his representative made it clear he was happy at Pittodrie, and was keen to stay, but we were not prepared to offer him a four-year extension.

“Everyone at Aberdeen FC respects Jamie’s decision to look elsewhere, thanks him for his time at the club and wishes him all the best for his future career.”

Attacking midfielder McGrath had been a central figure of Aberdeen’s rise to the top of the Premiership earlier in the season.

But he sustained a shoulder injury in January which required surgery and will miss the rest of the campaign for the Dons.

His last game for Aberdeen came against Hearts in the 0-0 January draw at Pittodrie. McGrath has featured 27 times for the Dons this season, scoring five and assisting six.
