St Johnstone have reportedly joined the race to sign Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay on loan.

Ramsay joined Liverpool in 2022 from Aberdeen but hasn’t been able to break into the first-team since then.

The Scotland cap has played for Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers on loan from Anfield and represented Wigan Athletic for the first half of this season.

But his spell at the Brick Community Stadium was unsuccessful and Liverpool exercised their right to recall the 21-year-old.

Calvin Ramsay linked with St Johnstone loan move

Now, Liverpool are seeking a new temporary home for Ramsay and it is being reported by The Scottish Sun and The Courier that several clubs are interested in signing the full-back.

One of those teams is Premiership strugglers St Johnstone, who are in desperate need of a conventional right-back.

The Courier’s report states that Perth Saints boss Simo Valakari wants to recruit in a number of positions with right-back one of them.

The Scottish Sun say that other SPFL clubs have been alerted to Ramsay’s availability so there will be competition for his signature.

St Johnstone need reinforcements

There’s been more outgoings than incomings just three days into the January transfer window for St Johnstone.

Defender Lewis Neilson’s loan from Hearts was cut short due to the Edinburgh club’s shortage at the back due to injuries.

While Kyle Cameron’s loan is also set to end with Notts County expected to sell the 27-year-old to Barrow.
