Aberdeen are poised to make their first signing of the January transfer window.

The Dons’ squad is looking pretty threadbare at the minute after being decimated by injuries and Ester Sokler and Gavin Molloy have been ruled out long-term to add to their woes.

Jimmy Thelin had already admitted he would need signings to bulk out his squad but they may need to delve into the market even further than planned.

They seemed to be pressing on even in advance of the window opening and Not the Old Firm exclusively revealed a bid had been lodged for Grasshoppers centre-half Kristers Tobers.

The centre of defence is probably the most pressing concern, especially with the Molloy news, but Aberdeen could also do with adding in midfield and attack.

And they now look set to address one area.

Jeppe Okkels to sign for Aberdeen

Jeppe Okkels is poised to sign for the Dons on loan for the rest of the season, with an option to buy included, according to the Daily Record.

The left winger signed for Preston in the English Championship in the summer but has started just one game in the league, coming off the bench six times.

Former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom has come in as manager and doesn’t use wingers in his system so has agreed to let the Dane move on.

Okkels arrived in Aberdeen last night and as pictured at the airport.

Thelin will press on with further attempts to strengthen his squad amid a ten-game winless run.

Who is Aberdeen signing Jeppe Okkels?

Okkels is a 24-year-old Danish winger who played for Thelin at Elfsborg.

The Swede signing him from Silkeborg, where he had come through the youth setup, in 2020.

Okkels scored 31 goals in 120 appearances for Elfsborg before being signed for £3m by Utrecht in January 2024.

He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal there but lasted just half a season before Preston came in for him.

He will now hope his move up north to Pittodrie goes better than his English adventure.
