Andy Halliday started off the rumour mill when he suggested he knew of an Aberdeen transfer in the works.

The Dons have already added four players so far in the January window as Jimmy Thelin gets to work on bulking up his squad, which has been decimated by injuries.

The latest of those was Alexander Jensen, who Aberdeen confirmed the signing of from Brommapojkarna yesterday, having already loaned Alfie Dorrington from Tottenham earlier in the day.

Jensen is a right-back and Dorrington a centre half as Aberdeen reacted to a long-term injury to Gavin Molloy as well as striker Ester Sokler.

They were added to last week’s capture of Latvia captain Kristers Tobers from Grasshoppers after Not the Old Firm exclusively revealed an offer was in some weeks ago.

Winger Jeppe Okkels had become Aberdeen’s first signing of January after joining on loan from Preston, with an option to buy.

More additions are expected and Halliday teased fans with his revelation on the radio last night.

Naismith on Aberdeen’s radar

While discussing Aberdeen’s transfer dealings, the Motherwell midfielder insisted he was expecting their form to pick up with the business they’ve been doing.

Halliday then threw in that he knew of a “good friend” of his who was potentially on the bring of signing.

That led to speculation among fans but Not the Old Firm can reveal the man he was referring to was Kal Naismith.

The Scottish defender is at Bristol City but has only played six times in the Championship this season and hasn’t featured in a squad since November.

Not the Old Firm understands Aberdeen are keen to land the versatile 32-year-old on loan for the rest of this season.

He is then out of contract at Ashton Gate and free to move to a new club in the summer.

Naismith can play at centre-back or in either full-back position which could come in handy for the Dons’ current squad shortage.

As it stands, the Pittodrie men are pushing for the deal to happen but it hangs in the balance at the moment and is really down to the former Rangers man’s wishes.

Naismith profiled

Naismith is a pal of Halliday’s and has appeared on his podcast Open Goal alongside him.

The defender was part of the first-team as the Ibrox club dropped to the lower leagues but didn’t play a whole lot before moving on to Accrington Stanley.

He has forged a respectable career for himself in the lower leagues, starring for Stanley and Portsmouth in Leagues Two and One before winning moves to Wigan and Luton in the Championship.

After helping the latter to the promotion play-offs he was offered a new deal but snubbed it to move to Bristol City, where he has been since.
