We’re already at the 4th of January and the transfer rumour mill is in overdrive. Not The Old Firm provide you with updates concerning Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United, St Johnstone and Ross County.

St Johnstone want Calvin Ramsay

We told yesterday how Liverpool had recalled Calvin Ramsay from his loan at Wigan, putting Premiership clubs on red alert.

It later came out that St Johnstone were indeed interested in the former Aberdeen right-back, with his career stalling since making the money-spinning move to Anfield.

Saints need someone in that position and they may also need a centre-back too with Kyle Cameron returning to Notts County ahead of a loan to Barrow.

More movement at Hearts

Hearts competed their second incoming transfer of the window by signing Jamie McCart.

They have paid £70,000 to sign him from Rotherham and the centre-back would appear to be a direct replacement for Kye Rowles, who we revealed is off to DC United for £600,000.

McCart adds to the capture of striker Elton Kabangu on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Jambos have already recalled Lewis Neilson from his loan at St Johnstone and have now done the same with Aidan Denholm from Ross County.

But the midfielder won’t be able to feature any time soon as he undergoes rehab on an injury picked up playing for the Staggies.

Andres Salazar has had his loan at Hearts cancelled and heads back to Atletico Nacional having featured just once.

Hibs

Hibs are yet to do anything in the market but manager David Gray has confirmed they definitely will be.

He said: “I don’t think you can really put a number on it. I think naturally with the window opening, there will be ins and outs. There’s obviously been a few outs straight away.

“The work’s been going on tirelessly for a number of weeks now, we’re always looking to be proactive because you never know what could come up.

“We’ve always said if the right deal can be done, the club have been very supportive in trying to make the squad better, and if it can be done then I’m sure we’ll do that.

“We’ve also got a lot of injuries to come back as well. Even if you look at the matchday squad yesterday and the amount of big names that have been missing that are due to come back pretty soon.

“When you add them back to the group then we are in a healthy position. It’s now about maintaining that momentum and positivity going forward.”

Young midfielder Malik Zaid has been loaned back to Edinburgh City for a second spell. He spent time at Ainslie Park last season before joining Annan this campaign, but has had his spell there cut short to drop into League Two.

Aberdeen, Dundee United and others

Aberdeen have loaned young duo Alfie Stewart and Alfie Bavidge to Inverness after their interest was confirmed yesterday.

Dundee United hope to keep hold of Wrexhman loanee Sam Dalby amid his red hot form and Jim Goodwin addressed their chances of doing so after he fired in a derby winner.

Ross County want to sign goalkeeper Myles Roberts, who is currently on loan at Partick Thistle from Watford.

He has impressed in the Championship and the Staggies want to take him, while Watford would like him to play at as high a level as possible, reports the Daily Record.

Meanwhile, a Scotland duo could both make massive moves.

We told how Liverpool’s Ben Doak had been the subject of a £15million bid from Crystal Palace, after his sparkling form on loan at Middlesbrough.

Ipswich have now joined the race but Liverpool will reportedly demand £30m to let him leave permanently.

And midfielder Lewis Ferguson is wanted by Inter Milan after returning from his lengthy Bologna lay-off.

He has previously been linked with rivals AC Milan and Juventus but Inter are now eyeing a £16.5m move.
